It’s that time again. Time to sharpen those pencils, strap on the new backpacks, and tie those shoelaces. It time to go back to school. This new change can be stressful for both kids and parents. Here are a few tips to stay cool and have back to school be easier for both parents and kids.

Stay Calm!

Remember the old saying “If mom isn’t happy nobody’s happy”? This is so true. If you are having some anxious thoughts about the new school year try to keep them to yourself and not let them rub off onto your little ones. Anxiety can be contagious. Instead, assure them that no matter what concerns they have about teachers or friends it is going to be alright because you can help them through it. They have your support.

Keep an open mind about your child’s teacher:

There is one thing that you and your child’s teacher have in common and that is you both want your child to have a great year. When around your child make sure to stay positive about their teacher. The last thing you want is to damage your child’s relationship with the teacher. Just remind yourself you’re on the same team.

Make New Friends:

Yep, you! There are a lot of parents going through the exact same thing as you are. Find one you connect with and invite them over. Your kids can play while you talk about how to survive the rest of the school year.

Enjoy the Freedom:

Your kids are in capable hands. Rest assured that they are well taken care of, so you might as well enjoy the time away from them. Read that book that has been calling to you all summer, Volunteer, or start a new hobby.  Your kids will be that much more happy to see you when the bell rings at the end of the day.

Good luck and have a great year!
